High Friction geocomposites

The solution for Landfill Capping

Typical geonet/geomembrane interfaces have friction angles less than 15°, thus, a bottom frictional nonwoven geotextile is necessary.
Nowadays, most drainage products on landfill side slopes applications are double-sided geocomposites. The bottom geotextile not only incur additional cost, but also reduces hydraulic performance.

To achieve stability factor of safety 1.5 for a 3:1 slope geocomposite/ geomembrane interface friction must be at least 27°. Typical doublesided geocomposites/smooth geomembrane interface have a friction 10° ~ 20° .
Thus, smooth geomembrane is out of selection. A Textured geomembrane is required. Textured geomembrane not only increase cost, but also reduce tensile property comparing with smooth geomembrane.

TENAX HF/smooth geomembrane interface has a friction greater than 40°. This makes smooth geomembrane possible on side of slopes. As a matter of fact, even steeper slope (2.5 ~ 1) can be considered still having adequate safety factor, which results in a greater landfill spacing savings.

The benefits

Provides four times higher interface shear strength than conventional double-sided geocomposite when tested against a smooth geomembrane
Provide 50% higher transmissivity than a conventional double-sided geocomposite
Allows the construction of steeper side slopes to increase the available landfill capacity
Allows the use of smooth geomembranes on steep slopes whilst still achieveing adequate factors of safety against inteface sliding
Smooth geomembrane reduces cost and increases tensile properties compared with an extruded geomembrane
